💡 Your questions, my answers:
I received a few questions in this week’s Q&A Chat thread - here’s my stab at answering some of them:
I’ve recently been involuntarily retired and still need a part time income. I’ve published one book and am working on getting another out there, but not making much money yet. How do I get started?
I’d publish content about your book publishing journey.
Not everyone can say they’ve achieved that, and I’m sure plenty would be keen to find out how it’s done. Documenting how you’re going about getting your second book published would also be super interesting.
Write regularly, make some of your posts available to paid subs only, and maybe consider cross-posting some of it onto Medium as well. If you’re comfortable being in front of the camera, think about recording videos for YouTube or going Live on Substack.
Build in public and readers will naturally draw closer to spectate. Give those spectators opportunities to support you financially.
How does a white woman, over 50 with no degree, write and get paid for it fast?
Similarly to my previous answer above, write about something you have solid experience in and publish regularly on Substack and other applicable platforms.
The fact that you’re over 50 and have no degree can actually work for you because plenty of other writers will be in the same boat, and will want to see how you fare in your journey.
There’s no quick fix to making money from your writing (and I would do you a disservice if I pretended there was) but you can put systems in place to make the entire process more straightforward. The earlier you create those systems and the more dutifully you stick to them, the faster you’ll reach your goal of generating income from your writing.
Any thoughts on these questions/answers? Do you have any of your own?
