Imagine a world in which all of the writers write about writing and how to monetize it.

It's not just consistent writing that brings in the bucks. It's writing about making $ from writing. Many of us flock to this Meta-verse. We need stories of success to soothe our uncertainty and give us hope that all our toil is worth it. But if she wrote daily about her deep love of the Green Sea Anemone and her fellow undersea creatures, would you be sharing the secrets of her success?

Very inspired by this and the reminder that consistency is key for any content to take root. But HOW do you have a full time job AND write for two hours a day? (And workout and have friends and cook and clean and have a hobby, spend time with family, etc.) Asking as a twenty something who LOVES writing but feels already swamped getting two to three posts out per week amidst all of life’s commitments 😩

Eve is writing nonfiction, how about someone writing fiction?

Hm, it seems less like she’s a great writer and more someone with a castle in the sky promise that is scalable and sellable.

Inspiring story, but still skeptical.

What if you were consistent and wrote for 6 months, and STILL got nowhere?

The work ultimately have been in vain and potential burnout.

Stories like this always inspire, and remind us never to give up if the "numbers" don't add up to what we'd like. It's really wonderful to see yet another bit of proof that you can earn a living as a writer.

I do think it's important for all of us to take a good long look at the line "If she can build a six-figure solo writing business in her spare time, so can you."

I've seen lines like this for years. Not just about writing, but any business endeavor. "If I can do it, so can you." The trouble with this type of inspirational push is that it oversimplifies individual circumstances, and it rolls right over certain realities. It might not be possible for everyone to do what someone like Eve has done, given their circumstances. What does "spare time" mean? As a working mom with no extended family around (our families are either on different continents or on the other side of the US), my definition of "spare time" is non existent. Let me rephrase that... I do have free time, but I choose to dedicate some of it to sleep, good health and fitness. Do I write every day? Yes, but it takes different forms (a lot of client work since I own a business). I think a lot. A lot more than I write. That's me.

What I personally feel is important to take away from inspiration like this, which tends to make one feel somehow inadequate if one does **not** achieve this 6-figure side gig, is it doesn't have to be exactly like this. The deeper point is, "Yes you can." It might look and be different from other writers, but it will be your "Yes you can." You just have to figure out the what, the why, and the how, and probably the when too. :)

🔥 Writing (and stories like this) can provide hope for so many — particularly those facing retirement without the nest egg 👊🏻
