I went to turn out the porch light earlier this week and there was a bear cub trying to get into our barbeque. Two days later there was a quite large pile of bear scat at the bottom of our driveway, likely from the mama. I've stopped going up to check the mailbox after dark until winter sets in.
For me, this site came a little too late in life. At 72 with arthritis in my wrist and fingers typing is a challenge. I take solace in typing short stories a few times a month about growing up in Arkansas with my brother. I used to have outlines of sifi books along with other types, but life moves on. Sean Dietrich brought me here because he likes the format for his daily blog, and I was just one of many fans that followed him.
Truly reading you on SubStack always puts me in a good mood! Your whole persona shines through and the positivity you emit is contagious! Thank you so much for being the kind caring soul you always are! Oh and let me not forget all the chuckles you bring to me! Have a great weekend!
Any part-time writers out there? I’ve been on parental leave, and returning to a demanding work schedule. I’m afraid my writing will fall off . . . Open to ideas on how to keep my Substack thriving.
Where I live in a safe and undisturbed piece of North Carolina, it has not rained for two weeks. I’ve been working in my small garden, where it has remained unnaturally warm, still 80 degrees every day. The front yard’s dry soil is 90 percent hand weeded, not wanting to bomb the little lawn we’ve left with chemicals. Today I venture out to a new local nursery for pansies, goldenrod, and some asters , a last bit of color to help us through the winter dark.
Thanks David, so kind!
Pleasure!
Me? After successfully managing to post my second article on Substack yesterday (Yeay!) plus get your podcast course, today I am resting a little.

I’ve been enjoying some cozy fall vibes, sipping on pumpkin spice lattes and catching up on my reading.
I can’t wait to hear what you have in store for next week :)
