People say they think AI will replace authors, but like, come on. AI can't write "Catcher in the Rye" or "the Great Gadsby." It's not creative enough for that.
One time when I was playing an Avatar-themed roleplaying game, one of the players picked up a book, and the game master had AI write a few chapters. (He took some time to read through and catch the errors and inconsistencies, and told the AI to correct them.) It actually turned out pretty interesting... But like you said, it was a thinly veiled rip-off. It was basically Romeo and Juliet in the world of Avatar. So, no originality, but AI writing does make for fun experiments.
I agree that AI is a useful tool and that any novels written would be lacking in originality, skill and voice. An interesting experiment though.
Thanks Melanie. It was interesting indeed, and just made me more sure than ever that there's no substitute for human creativity.

Exactly. By definition, it can't be creative. As the author pointed out, it can only pull elements from other stories.

Thank you for posting this. I am totally against using AI to write "novels" or to create art in any form.
