This is by far the least irritating 'how to make money on Substack' advice I've seen. :P

I like your focus on making some good pocket money/bonus income, rather than the usual life-changing absurdities promised by the usual gurus.

That's certainly what I've found - building a publication into something that earns a proper living is incredibly difficult, and for some subjects likely near-impossible. But building a publication to a point where it's a nice little side-earner, or covers your bills every month, seems very doable.

Agree!

So many ”gurus” embrace to make a life-changing amounts on Substack.

How about trust getting some paydays for your valuable effort? And keeping that going.

Sounds beautiful :)

Very useful, thanks! Can you pls tell me where is your sponsorship offer? Is it automated?

This was really helpful! Especially the notion of reaching out to podcast sponsors and seeing if they’d sponsor the pod.

For the moment I have decided to keep content free as my aim is to share my knowledge and grow my list. The aim is to sell high ticket advisory services so paywalling seems self defeating in my case.

I like the ideas of sponsorship, although my audience is small at the moment. I might offer free or very cheap sponsorship slots to start with with brands that align with my content. A good sponsor could enhance your newsletter.

Check out Tim Stoddart’s newsletter model, he apparently makes 60k$ per year with it.

Rather than paywalling posts, create a course, add it to your Substack website and paywall it. Use your free content to get people to buy the course.

Thanks for the post!

You didn't mention affiliate products. Did you try them?

And as regards sponsors, how would you set a starting price based on views?
