It hasn’t been the content creation as much as the predatory platforms that have destroyed my creation capacity. Substack is the first place that hasn’t felt soul sucking since Google+… yes, I said Google+ 🤣 I’m a newbie, nobody here and there’s some really glorious freedom in that. I think a fresh start is in order. Lovin’ your stack, brotha. 🥃

Thanks so much! Definitely agree about Substack, too!

Dre, I couldn't agree more! I'm very new here (less than a week in!) and have already found it to be so energising and motivating, as opposed to the complete sense of drain I feel after spending time on other platforms. It's an exciting time!

Thank you thiss. So you are basically saying we should promote our writing across multiple platforms right?

David McIlroy's avatar

To some extent. Find out which platforms work best for you and share portions of your core content there as discovery pieces. Draw readers to your core content and then into your community.

I appreciate your generosity--always. Love the term, "evergreen" too. Thank you for the ideas. Have to mull over how to apply them to my type of writing, which is not "How to" but literary narrative. You've got my wheels turning.

So this is an Awesome idea. I think of it like a content funnel. However, I have to ask. Does it have to be videos or podcasts? I ask because one reason I've jumped back into writing is because I can do it anywhere any time of day. This is great with my busy life style. I did videos before on video games particularly teaching people about certain ones. My question is if I started another publication about that, could that function as core content? Or does it need to be another medium all together?

The consistency in creating secondary content has been my biggest issue lately. What little time I get to focus on writing has been directed at working on my next novel, not my Substack or Medium audiences. I need to take the weekend and make several posts and get them scheduled to spread throughout the week.

I have given thought to the podcast or YouTube ideas. I have plenty of ideas, just need to make the time to work on them.
