720 Hours On TikTok For 150 Book Sales. Is This Really The Way?
There could be a better approach to book marketing.
I came across this tweet from another author on Twitter:
I share those concerns.
TikTok can certainly be a useful platform for writers —if the algorithm notices your video, your book sales can skyrocket.
But that’s just it.
Unless the algorithm boosts your content, there’ll be nothing but tumbleweeds.
And that’s the biggest problem with social media marketing.
It can be super effective or incredibly useless.
Every piece of content you put out is at the mercy of a robotic algorithm, and no-one really knows what rules it plays by.
It’s similar on Medium, except here you’re rewarded for producing quality content rather than click-baity, trend-chasing flashes in the pan.
My suggestion for marketing your book?
Focus on producing evergreen content that’s discoverable through search engines.
If you’ve got 700+ hours to spare across 3 months, create long-lasting waymarkers to your book instead of TikTok videos.

It doesn't matter what anyone says, truthfully, only do it if you actually enjoy it.
I've seen many platforms rise and fall, algorithms changing overnight. People getting bullied, accounts getting banned.
The only way for you to draw the line between it being incredibly rewarding or painfully soulsucking is by actually enjoying the process.
TikTok can certainly be a fickle friend! What do you mean by waymarkers?
