Dude, we should ALL ignore the metrics. I know this runs counter to what you'll see from certain gurus but the reality is that readers don't know what they want until they read it.

You've probably read Walter Isaacson's biography of Jobs. A classic example. If Apple would have done what consumers expected Apple would have been a lesser-man's Microsoft.

What the takeaway for writers? To write not with an eye toward the metrics but both eyes looking inward, toward your soul. What do you really want to say? And what would happen if you said that?

How will you strike the balance between knowing if you're heading into the right direction and limiting stats?

And between ignoring what others are doing and learning what works?
