Why here, now?
Writing online’s been a bit of a revelation for me this year.
I started in late May with Medium; Substack followed hot on its heels. Since then, putting words on the internet on a regular basis has become something of a joy.
And, crucially, it generates income. It’s modest now, but the seeds have been planted. It’s up to me to keep watering them every day.
I’ve come to love Substack, Medium, and all forms of online writing that go beyond just asking what everyone’s favourite pizza topping is on Twitter.
It’s also reignited my passion for writing fiction - I can’t wait to dive back into that properly after the New Year, around the time my debut novel comes out.
Why this publication?
I hope How to Write for a Living can help fellow writers break through the traditional barriers keeping them from financial success by laying down clear pathways to revenue generation.
Writers should get paid for doing what they do, which is something few people are truly capable of: entertaining, educating and inspiring others through the written word.
It’s not something to be taken lightly or dismissed offhand. It’s talent.
So whether you’re a writer of blogs, novels, newsletters, or anything else under the shining sun, you deserve to make a living from the long hours spent tapping at your keyboard, often while others are still tucked up in bed.
I’m getting there one day at a time, and I want to take you with me.
What can subscribers expect in 2024?
If 2023 was the year (or six months) of feet-finding, I want 2024 to be the year of purpose for this publication.
All subscribers can expect the following:
A collaborative post packed with insights from a guest writer (weekly)
An in-depth piece written by me, where I’ll share my experiences, progress, goals, and more (weekly)
A weekend “roundup”-style post full of things I think my subscribers will like
A monthly “deep dive” post (more to be revealed on that after Christmas)
Regular discussions and updates in the Chat section
Audio and video content (once I’ve worked up the nerve!)
And while there’ll be a partial free element to almost all of that, paid subscribers will get access to the whole shebang, as well as:
Access to my full archive of existing articles
FREE access to my online course (worth £48)
Exclusive first access to - and discounts on - future downloadable digital products (guides, resources, courses, coaching and communities)
Ability to engage with paid-only articles
Exclusive chats and online events
And much more
Finally, let’s wrap this up with a question: as subscribers, what would you like to get from this publication?
Let me know in the comments below.
Thanks, everyone! 😊
As subscriber and hoping to be a paid one soon I would insights, knowledge, and expertise on the topics you cover. This can include sharing your writing process, tips for improving writing skills, or advice on specific writing techniques.
Looking forward to what you'll share with us in 2024!
